RCMP secure land for Coaldale detachment
Town of Coaldale

With less than seven months to go before the RCMP take over policing of Coaldale, design work is underway on a new detachment facility.
Coaldale town council met with RCMP officials at last night’s regular council meeting to introduce the Town of Coaldale’s new RCMP detachment commander and to unveil the future location of the new headquarters for the RCMP in Coaldale.
Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry has been named as the new detachment commander and was introduced to town council Monday evening. He is currently assigned to the Chestermere RCMP and will be relocated to Coaldale before the end of the year.
The RCMP recently completed the acquisition of approximately five acres of land located at 705-19A Avenue, located on the east side of Coaldale, along the Highway 3 commercial land, just north of Parkside Acres. This land will be used for the construction of a regional policing facility.
The building replaces the current RCMP detachment located in the City of Lethbridge, next to City Hall and will be the home to the new Coaldale RCMP Detachment.
Additional RCMP provincial resources will also be housed in this new facility. The facility will be approximately 2,300 square metres (25,000 square foot).
Design work will be completed over the next year with construction slated to begin in 2016.
Construction should be completed by 2018, at which time existing regional RCMP and Traffic Sheriff resources will relocate from their current site in Lethbridge to the Coaldale facility.
Once completed, approximately 50 resources will work out of this new state-of-the-art facility.
With the RCMP scheduled to take over the policing of Coaldale on Jan. 1, 2016, work has already begun to provide temporary Coaldale offices for the RCMP within the Coaldale town office.
Work is slated to begin this summer on the renovation work to the town office to accommodate the offices required by the RCMP until the new regional policing facility is completed.
