Families get your party on to help celebrate Barons Family Fun Day July 4.
When Dell-Ann Jones, one of the organizers of the town-wide event, was asked where will the activities be held? Jones replied, “All over.”
A parade will be held at 11 a.m. on Main Street in Barons after a free breakfast from 8-10 a.m., the Historic Society will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the fire hall will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will be serving lunch, the community hall will be holding a farmers’ market from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. — along with kids games, a cake walk, a watermelon contest, and a dinner will be served. The Barons Legion will also be open.
“For those who want to wet their whistle,” she joked, adding it will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Jones added the cake walk will be held between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. And the watermelon contest is from 1-2 p.m. The kids’ games will be running from 2-4 p.m. A town-wide garage sale will also be throughout the community starting at 4 p.m.
“Basically, there will be balloons posted. Just look for the balloons,” said Jones, in regards to how to find which residences will be hosting garage sales.
Supper will be served at the community hall between 5-6:30 p.m. There will be a cost for the dinner and the variety of lunches being held throughout the day.
Jones said Barons Family Fun Day was originally called Sports Day. Jones has been living in Barons and area for over 20 years and the event has been an annual community get-together.
“We just keep changing the name because new people come on and we decide to give it a new uplift and new name,” she pointed out.
Jones is a member of the Barons and District Ag Society, which puts on the event each year.
“The Ag Society is actually the people who organize and plan it and send it out to everybody in the community. Everybody puts something into it,” said Jones, adding each year the event is usually well attended.
