Lethbridge Integrated Traffic Unit
As of Aug. 17, construction has begun on the new round-about being constructed on Highway 25 and Highway 519. This new intersection is an important piece in the safe flow of persons and cargo on the highway.
Lethbridge Integrated Traffic unit is enforcing the construction zone. In the past week and a half there have been several incidents of concern. The construction zone is clearly marked as a 50 kilometre per hour zone.
One vehicle was stopped and charged for travelling 170 kilometres per hour, as it entered the zone. The driver was charged and will be attending court in the future. In another incident, a commercial vehicle was being waved over for a speeding violation. The officer was nearly hit by the speeding truck. The driver is facing criminal charges.
Construction worker safety is paramount in these areas. The construction zones are posted 50 kilometres per hour for their safety.
Fines are doubled when in construction zones. As an example, travelling 100 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 kilometres per hour zone will result in a fine of $949.
Please watch your speed and protect the workers trying to make the roads safer for you. The Lethbridge Integrated Traffic Unit, as well as local detachments will be enforcing these areas. Please slow down and drive safely.
