Standoff man facing numerous charges in connection with property crimes spree

LRPS have charged a 32-year-old man with more than 20 property crimes offences and additional charges are expected in connection with a series of incidents throughout October.

Between Oct. 7 and Oct. 25 the accused engaged in a series of crimes including car prowling and thefts from vehicles, breaking and entering, mischief and the theft of multiple vehicles. Most of the incidents occurred in Lethbridge, but several vehicles were stolen from Coaldale.

On the afternoon of Oct. 25, police responded to a report of a male checking car door handles (car prowling) in the Park Place Mall parking lot in Lethbridge. Police subsequently located the suspect, who was found to be in possession of stolen property. He was arrested and following further investigation identified as the subject responsible for numerous property crimes offences over the past month.

The man is charged with:

Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 x3
Resisting a Peace Officer
Theft under $5,000 x4
Housebreaking with intent
Driving a motor vehicle with no insurance x2
Driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized x2
Possession of stolen property over $5,000
Break and enter (to place other than dwelling house)
Attempted theft under $5,000
Theft of a motor vehicle x4
Mischief under $5,000

The man appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance Nov. 3.

Investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
