Town-sponsored public skate times
At a regular Sept. 27 Town of Picture Butte council meeting, council passed the motion to sponsor holiday public skating times. This season, the town implemented an entrance fee for public skate times and sent out a letter to local organizations, individuals and businesses asking for sponsorships of public skate times. Mayor Wendy Jones noted during the council meeting she believes the town sponsoring public skate times during holidays is a good thing.
“It’s a little bit of advertising. It also makes us a family-friendly town because a lot of times people have company and will use it,” she said, in regards to families and friends getting together during the holidays.
Council passed the motion for the town to sponsor a one-hour public skating time block on Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. “And, to establish those days into a policy with the condition that if any private entity wanted to sponsor any of those days, they would get priority over the town,” she added, in regards to the motion, prior to being passed by council.
Reciprocal business licence MOU
Council passed the motion to approve administration to enter into a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) for reciprocal business licences with Nobleford, Coaldale, Magrath, Raymond, Coalhurst, Barons and Stirling.
According to a report submitted to council for consideration, the town entered into an MOU for reciprocal business licensing Apr. 8, 2011 for a five-year period. This MOU will expire Jan. 1, 2017.
