Amendments were made to Road-Use Policy 352 to allow for established commercial, industrial and agricultural operations to haul at 100 per cent load, as defined in the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Dimension and Weight Regulation, on annually banned roads businesses must use to access their premises.

Commercial, industrial and agricultural operations that are situated on annually banned roads, functioning as the only access to their business, may now apply for an annual permit (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) allowing them to haul at 100 per cent load.

According to a recent media release, the businesses/legal land owners must complete an application for the permit; the fee is $500 per year. If the permit is not approved, the fee will be reimbursed.

Schedule C of Policy 352 outlines the conditions of the permit and the information required by the applicant. The applications, schedules and location map of annually banned roads are available at the county’s Lethbridge and Picture Butte locations, as well as online on the Lethbridge County website at lethcounty.ca/government/policies/section-300-public-works.

For eligibility information you may contact the Lethbridge or Picture Butte offices.
