Fatal MVC on Highway 3 east of Lethbridge

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision East of Lethbridge on Highway 3

On Nov. 28, at about 5:30 p.m. Coaldale RCMP, along with the Lethbridge and Coaldale Fire Departments/EMS attended to a collision on Highway 3 at Range Road 212.

The collision involved a silver Ford Focus on Range Road 212 crossing southbound across Highway 3. A white pickup truck travelling westbound on Highway 3 struck the Ford Focus broad side causing the car to continue south and enter the south ditch on the eastbound lanes of the highway.

A second rear-end collision occurred with two other westbound vehicles on Highway 3. Three persons were transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge for treatment. The driver of the Ford Focus, a 32-year-old male resident of Coaldale received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other two persons transported were treated for minor injuries.

The Coaldale RCMP with the assistance of the Regional RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist and the Coaldale Fire Department are continuing with this investigation.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 3 are blocked off and traffic will be diverted for a few more hours this evening allowing for the investigation to be completed. The westbound lanes on Highway 3 were reduced to one lane and will be restricted for several hours.
