Art lovers will get a chance to meet the artists behind a unique art exhibit at the Picture Butte Art Gallery.
On Thursday, Aug. 8, the art gallery is hosting a special Meet the Artists and Photographers night, sponsored by the Friends of the Picture Butte Municipal Library Society.
The exhibit is a collection of images by different photographers, who had been asked to create a piece featuring a travelling dress.
“This exhibit is a collection of images by 10 different photographers, who were asked to create an art piece with the only stipulation being that the image had to use the ‘travelling dress’ in some way in the image,” said Hoffarth, the artist behind the exhibit.
“The project was created as a way for the participating photographers to show their creativity, and for the public to appreciate photographers as artists.”
Hoffarth said that the exhibit had been inspired by a similar project in the U.S.
“There are other travelling dress projects, but this one, and ours, ended with a gala and an unveiling of printed art pieces. This was very important to me.”
While Hoffarth has no formal art training, she has been a member of the Lethbridge Photography Club for years, and gained her art knowledge through other members of the club.
Noting that photography has become a popular hobby during the digital era, she said that the exhibit allowed it’s photographers to showcase their art skills.
“This exhibit shows us that photographers are not only people who capture a split second in time on film, but they are artists who design and create images that weave stories, and often tackle a message that is important to the photographer and the world around us.”
The Meet the Artists ad Photographers night goes Aug. 8 from 7-9 p.m. at the Picture Butte Art Gallery.
Other featured artists include DeEtta PItman, an oil painter; prairie photographer Mike Siderenko; Rebecca Kohn with drawings; and mixed media painter Melanie Boettcher.
