The Town of Coaldale has received an award for financial reporting.
During Coaldale town council’s regular March 9 meeting, administration announced that the town had received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), for their Annual Report for the year-ended Dec. 31, 2018. The award aims to honour to municipal governments throughout Canada who publish high-quality financial reports.
“I just want to express council’s delight and gratitude to all the hard work that went into preparing this submission and all the good work,” said Kim Craig, mayor of Coaldale. “It was a very remarkable document from our perspective last year, and I’m glad you’re awarded with this award.” The report was judged by impartial panel, and had to meet criteria which include demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the municipality’s financial story and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. This is the first year that the town has received the award, and Kyle Beauchamp, director of corporate services for the town, thanked his peers and colleagues for their help.
“As a recipient of the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, we are demonstrating our commitment to providing transparent and easily readable financial information to our residents, local businesses, and other stakeholders,” said Beauchamp, in a press release. “This accomplishment is something that the Town of Coaldale and our community can be truly proud of; something we’ll be striving to achieve each and every year moving forward.”
The award was presented to Coaldale’s Corporate Services Department on Feb. 14, and was officially recognized by Coaldale Town Council at their regular March 9 meeting.
