Businesses in Picture Butte can take advantage of a loan program with the town and Community Futures to make their properties look more inviting.

During their regular Aug 24 meeting, Picture Butte town council discussed a Business Improvement Loan program from Community Futures.

The Business Improvement Loan program is a program where a participating municipality pays the interest on a loan from Community Futures to a local business.

The loans are up to $10,000, and the business must be based in Picture Butte. Home-based businesses can not apply for this loan.

According to town administration, Community Futures had received an application from a business to pave their lot. However, paving does not fall under the criteria of the policy, just aesthetics to the building, and Community Futures was seeking direction from town council to know if this was something they would like to fund now and into the future.

Mayor Cathy Moore said she had spoken to Darlene Sinclair, executive director, about the program, and she was told that while it depended on the community, the majority of them do include property aesthetics in with the program.

“I don’t see an issue with this,” said Moore. “We are now, right now, into the beautification of our downtown, and I think this would fall into it.”

“We don’t have a lot of people looking into community future and our business improvement loans, and this is a way to get people talking and interested in it.”

Council passed a motion to add property aesthetics to the criteria of the Business Improvement Loan Policy.
