Although a final walkthrough had yet to take place as of last week, Phase 2 of Coalhurst’s Wetlands Project will hopefully soon come to a close.

During Coalhurst council’s regular Nov. 21 meeting, town administration responded to a councillor’s inquiry on the wetland project.

Coun. Deborah Florence had requested a summary report on what was with Phase 2 of the Wetlands project. Phase 2 of the project had been expected to be completed in September. However, there have been delays with the project, and Florence is seeking on update on the work.

Earlier in the meeting, during his report to council, Town Operations Manager Kevin Lewis informed council that all civil works were now completed on the main constructed wetland project. Items to be completed include the expansion boards at the ends of the bridges, the addition of a post at the parking area, a few minor electrical deficiencies in the control building and rectifying the light pollution issue from the pathway lighting.

Florence thanked Lewis for the update in his report, and inquired about if the walkthrough had taken place yet and if they know a date for completion. Lewis said they are still trying to “pin that down”. A walkthrough is expected to take place either the week of the council meeting, or the week of Nov. 27.

“A lot of the work has been completed, what I listed there,” said Lewis. “Just trying to get a lot of these deficiencies out of the way. There is a few deficiencies still on the electrical and building, it’s mostly housekeeping, the wiring is labeled for future. I believe the bridge (boards) has been included. So, there’s only one or two minor outstanding (things).”

Lewis added that he had received a report regarding the lighting issue, and they are looking at two options: replacing the light fixtures or putting dimmers on them.

Council passed a motion to receive the Wetlands Project Report for information.
