Annexation to add industrial capacity to Nobleford

On March 12, The Town of Nobleford held a public open house concerning an ongoing annexation application to the Land and Property Rights Tribunal for lands currently under the jurisdiction of Lethbridge County, which are located to the north and east of the Town of Nobleford’s existing corporate boundary.

The lands subject to annexation are legally described as a portion of SW 11-11-23 W4, and the approximate area of proposed annexation is 20.87 hectares (50.34 acres). 

Chief Administrative Office for the Town of Nobleford, Joeseph Hutter said, “There has been a decision from Council to proceed with the annexation. As the process continues, there will be several more decisions required from Council, such as the compensation that will be provided to Lethbridge County for the annexation.” 

The March 12 open house was purely informational as annexation is still in the early stages. Hutter said, “There have been no objections to date.”

Following an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) meeting in March of 2023, The Town of Nobleford submitted a letter of notification of the Town’s intent to annex land from Lethbridge County. The letter states the purpose of the annexation is to accommodate future industrial growth in the Town of Nobleford. This land was also included within the Nobleford/Lethbridge County IDP as a “preferred growth direction” back in 2012.

Currently, Nobleford does not have any industrial lots for sale, or developable industrial land. “The annexation will allow for sufficient growth for the foreseeable future,” Hutter explained. 

Hutter said, since the process is still in its early stages, the Town has yet to receive enquiries from businesses, but noted, “we consistently hear from businesses looking to either establish or move their businesses to Nobleford.” 

Nobleford boasts some of the most competitive residential and non-residential mill rates in the Province.
