A recent Town of Coalhurst Council meeting involved Mayor Deb Florence recognizing several volunteers and community organizations as part of National Volunteer Appreciation Week.
“Volunteerism is the one thing in Coalhurst that really defines small communities like ourselves,” said Mayor Florence. “So much of what makes this community special only happens when people continue to step up and give up their time and work together.”
Mayor Florence went on to say that volunteerism connects to the direction council has talked about in the Town’s strategic plan.
“We’re working towards activating a Recreation Master Plan, and continuing to build community pride and connection, and we know that creating events and experiences that are unique to Coalhurst cannot happen through the town alone,” said Mayor Florence. “It takes community groups, volunteers, organizers, coaches, families, and residents all contributing different in different ways.”
With that said, Mayor Florence expressed appreciation for St. John Ambulance via the delegation St. John’s instructor and volunteer Sean Saunders and Trade Community Service Coordinator who were present at the meeting.
Mayor Florence also recognized and gave gratitude the Coulee Kickers Soccer Association, stating that though member of the board Jamie Quinton was present, Council wanted to recognize all of the volunteers, coaches, and the board members who organize soccer for we more than 150 local players, and a lot more regionally. In addition to that, Mayor Florence also gave kudos to The Cat’s Sass Rescue and Coalhurst’s Park and Rec Society for supporting community initiatives.
“Council and administration have had the opportunity to go meet with different groups and appreciate all the wonderful folks in town for our National Volunteer Week campaign,” said Mayor Florence. “It’s been very fun to meet with local groups and individuals and again just say thank you for the important work that you do. I also wanted to acknowledge that while certain individuals may often be the public face of organizations or events, strong volunteer organizations are never built on one person alone or again just by the town alone. Behind every successful event, fundraiser, sport season, and community initiative. There are so many people contributing and people contributing in different ways, often quietly and without recognition. Our goal is to shine a little light and to recognize some of the good work that the you folks do.”
