Albertans can now submit applications to receive the $100 Alberta Energy Rebate.
An online portal launched on July 1 for eligible Albertans to submit applications to receive the one-time payment.
Premier Danielle Smith announced the rebate in June as a replacement for the fuel tax cuts that were legislated to occur after the price of oil hit $90 per barrel for an extended period. The province changed fuel tax relief regulations last month to allow for the change.
The UCP government says it will provide more flexible relief than the tax break by letting Albertans choose how they spend the money.
“The Alberta Energy Rebate goes beyond fuel costs,” said Minister of Finance Jason Nixon in a statement on July 1.
“It’s about making sure more Albertans are receiving the right supports, when and where they need them most. By delivering payments directly, we are guaranteeing relief reaches more Albertans now, not later.”
The province estimates the measure will provide 50 per cent more savings to the average Albertan than they would have saved on fuel costs over three months.
To be eligible for the rebate, an applicant must be an Alberta resident, 18 or older and have filed a 2025 tax return. Eligible applicants must also have a household income of $225,000 or less.
Individuals receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support will be automatically enrolled to receive their rebate.
To apply, create an account or log on to alberta.ca, verify your personal information and register through the online portal at https://energyrebate.alberta.ca.
The portal closes Sept. 30.
Eligible applicants will receive payments by e-transfer within 14 days of submitting an application.
