Open Farm Days returns this weekend

This weekend, people in the area can tour around local farms as part of the Alberta Open Farm Days. In southern Alberta, there are 32 farms to see, including six in the Lethbridge region.

Open Farm Days is a province-wide initiative that spans over two days and provides Albertans the chance to experience what goes on at the farms in their region. Along with visiting the farms, you can meet the people behind them and see how food goes from the land to your table. Entrance to the event is free and is the perfect event for the whole family.

Stop near Nobleford on Saturday to visit the Little Gem Winery located at 102054 Range Road 23-4. The winery will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Here you can see how haskap wine is made. Farming Smarter in Lethbridge County will be open for tours on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Located at 211034 AB-512, this research farm shows people how important agriculture is. It will also highlight innovations in technology and what is coming next.

The Coaldale and District Agricultural Society will be hosting for all on Saturday from 8:45 a.m-4:30 p.m. This event is a full-day guided bus tour showcasing the agriculture producers in the area. Lunch is provided, and the tour will stop at a potato farm, beef feedlot, and more. 

Another open farm in Coaldale is the Lilac Row, a flower farm located at 84049 Range Road 200. Open on Saturday from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., this flower farm has tons to see. Lilac Row features fresh bouquets and wedding florals, along with seasonal workshops, private events, and scheduled U-Pick days.

Near Coalhurst, you can visit the Venue of New Hope. Located at 100043 Range Road 22-3, this farm is open on Sunday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. This greenhouse/cafe is located on an acreage and is featured as a private and public spot for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, community events, and much more.
