Lethbridge County fire ban in effect

Despite the moisture southern Alberta has received, the fire ban for Lethbridge County remains in effect.

Several reports have been made regarding incinerator usage in the County, despite the fire ban being in effect. Anyone burning during a fire ban is subject to fines starting at $1,000, under the County’s fire bylaw.

Under the fire ban recreational campfires, burning barrels and incinerators, charcoal briquette barbeques, fireworks and any other open flame in a burn pit or pile are all prohibited.

Gas or propane heaters, stoves, firepits, barbecues that are CSA approved or ULC certified along with wood pellet grills are still permitted for use during fire bans.

Burning household garbage, tires, silage bags, plastic or anything other than yard debris is illegal at all times, fire ban or not.

Illegal burnings can be reported to 403-329-1225 or call 911 if a fire appears to threaten public safety, livestock or property. If the fire department is dispatched to illegal burning activities, the landowner will be responsible for the cost of the response and may face fines.
