Stephanie Wierl, Community Services Manager for the town of Coaldale, said with the arena upgrades that were completed last year the town was looking for a means of showcasing the facility to the community.
With involvement from the local figure skating club, minor hockey and the Copperheads, the idea of a Hockey Night in Coaldale grew.
The event will go Sunday, Nov. 17 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The event begins with welcome from the town followed by a 4 p.m. Copperheads alumni hockey game. Past players will be back in the Snake Pit for another round of junior hockey.
Minor hockey action begins at 5:45 p.m. as the Coaldale Cobras take on Magrath in regular season play.
Wierl said the town would like to see the Hockey Night become an annual event in Coaldale.
During the evening the concession will be open and there will be addition activities such as a skills competition between the Copperheads and the Cobras games.
She noted some other activities are also in the planning stages and will be released once they have been confirmed for that evening.
Hockey Night in Coaldale will also serve as a fundraiser for future arena improvements. Admission for the event is $5 a person with children five and under getting in for free. The Copperheads will also be conducting a 50/50 and proceeds from the evening will go back into the arena fund.
