Posted on October 20, 2015 by Sunny South News

The Coaldale Copperheads this past weekend, two nights in a row, won in shoot outs.
What a rush for the team coming from behind in both games substantially.
Saturday night at home against Three Hills Thrashers the Snakes found themselves down 3-0 in the middle of the second.
Calvin Swanson scored two in a row bringing the gap to 3-2. Fans, no doubt, thought the game was over, as nothing changed for the last half of the third. With twelve seconds left in the game, Connor Gross decided to showcase and make the score 3-3. Five minutes of four in four overtime was played with no change in score. This lead to a shoot out.
Thrashers missed their first four shots, and Copperheads’ Brady Parenteau scored the winning shoot out goal.
The final score was 4-3 with rookie Dylan Swanson as the net minder. Shots on goal were 46-23 for the Snakes.
Sunday, the team travelled to Blackfalds for the first match up since being there for the league championship last year.
The Snakes found themselves down 4-0 after one period.
Key goals ,one by one, were then scored by Austin Huculak, Dustin Houghton, Kaleb Robinson and Ty Mackenzie to tie the game 6-6. The game went into overtime for five minutes with no one scoring , leading to another shoot out. The hero-winning goal went to new comer Matt Thomson, who the team acquired a few weeks ago.
The final score was 7-6 with net minder Dillan Kelly between the pipes.
This secured the Copperheads with four big points, three wins in a row with an overall league record of 5-4.
This coming weekend, on Saturday, the team is having their annual Cancer Awareness Fundraiser game.
The team will host a bake sale in the lobby at the Coaldale Arena and the team encourages donations of baked goods.
Goodies can be dropped off from 6 p.m. in the lobby. Sales will take place throughout the game. The Copperheads will be dressed in pink jerseys with a start time of 8:30 p.m.
The team also encourages fans to wear pink in honour of this cause and to show support.
