The Christmas break officially wrapped up this past weekend for the Coaldale Copperheads as the team returned to the ice to take on the Okotoks Bisons.

Okotoks entered 2023 as the top team in the Heritage Junior ‘B’ Hockey League and the Copperheads are looking to turn their season around. In their lone game on the weekend, the Copperheads hit the road on Friday night for an 8 p.m game.

The Bisons would score two in the first and take a 2-0 lead into the second period. The Bisons would then add a single in the second and the third en route to a 4-0 win. The Copperheads were outshot 36-24 in the game and goalie Nixon Ordway made 32 saves on 36 shots. The Snakes would go 0-4 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

This coming weekend sees Coaldale back on the ice for a pair of road games. On Saturday, the Snakes take on the Rocky Rams with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. The following afternoon, the Copperheads take on the Strathmore Wheatland Kings in a 4:30 p.m. game. The Copperheads currently sit in fifth place in the Southern Division with a 9-15-4 record and 22 points.
