Last weekend of Jan. action for Cobras

The last weekend of Central Alberta Hockey League action for January came and went for Coaldale Cobra teams as the regular season heads towards the end.

U11 Tier 3

It was a two-game weekend for the U11 Tier 3 Cobras as they looked to continue their winning ways. First up was a trip on the road on Friday night to take on Pincher Creek. The teams battled all game long and when the final buzzer sounded, the game ended in a 6-6 tie. Boston Constant filled the net with five goals while Ben Wojszel had the other Cobra goal. Jackson Batkin, Armando Sebastian Alvarado Lopez, and Max Craven each had an assist. Mira Anderson was in net for the Cobras and the netminder turned away 22 of 28 shots.

The weekend wrapped up with a home game against Cardston on Sunday. This time, the Cobras were able to double up their opponent en route to an 8-4 win. Constant added another four goals and an assist, Jake Waggener had a hat trick and an assist, Craven scored a goal and an assist, and Wojszel, Kaelan Hoffman, and Alvarado Lopez each had an assist. Anderson was back in net, making 36 saves on 40 shots.

The U11 Tier 5 Cobras return to the ice this coming weekend for a single home game on Sunday when Chestermere comes to town for a 4:45 p.m. puck drop.

U11 Tier 5

The U11 Tier 5 Cobras welcomed in Nanton on Saturday for their lone game over the weekend. While the first and second periods saw neither team score, the Cobras had a quick strike of two goals in the third which was all they needed for a 2-0 win. Paxton Wiebe and Kendall Rae Clement had the goals while Lucas Kenyon had an assist in the win. Lance Leusink was stellar in the Coaldale net as the netminder had a 33-save shutout.

Next up for the U11 Tier 5 Cobras is a pair of home games this coming weekend. On Saturday, Fort Macleod comes to town for an 11 a.m. puck drop while Sunday sees Redcliff in Coaldale for an 11 a.m. game.

U13

With a single game on tap, the U13 Cobras were able to score plenty of goals with a 10-2 win over Crowsnest Pass at home on Sunday. Caleb Burton scored a hat trick, Makenna Malm had a pair of goals and an assist, Alistair Poettcker scored two goals, Rudy Wojszel, Nova Mulder, and William Thompson had a goal each, and Brayden Zasadny and Phoenix Weinkauf had an assist each. Brant L’Hirondelle made 18 saves on 20 shots in the Coaldale net.

The U13 Cobras return this coming weekend with a two-game schedule as they welcome in Claresholm for both games. Saturday and Sunday games go at 1:15 p.m.

U15

It was a two-game homestand for the U15 Cobras as they welcomed in Claresholm and Fort Macleod. On Saturday, Claresholm was in Coaldale and the visitors were able to score a 6-2 win. Jonah Hass and Lane Broderson had the Coaldale goals while Marco Burnett had an assist. Colton Peters was in net for Coaldale, making 29 saves on 35 shots.

Despite the loss to open the weekend, the Cobras were able to rebound in a big way against Fort Macleod on Sunday with a 9-0 win. Hudson Adams and Caleb Burton each had a goal and three assists, Karter Van Buuren and Kenneth Galbraith had a goal and two assists, Ryley Kauenhowen had a pair of goals, Hass had a goal and an assist, and Burnett and Killian Erick each had a goal. Dakota Hurst got the start and was perfect with a 23-save shutout.

Next action for the U15 Cobras comes on Feb. 12 when Coaldale welcomes in Picture Butte for a 4:45 p.m. game.

U18

Only one game was on tap for the U18 Cobras as they saw Lethbridge Red come to town on Saturday evening and the Cobras were able to battle their way to a 5-3 win to wrap up January. Schae Van Buuren scored two goals, Dalton Damen had a goal and an assist, Kade Lyckman and Ethan Moulton scored a goal each, and Donovan Malm, Kaiden Damen, Kaede Wakefield, and Ryker Bruised Head all had an assist. Brenden Duda got the start in net and the goalie made 26 stops on 29 shots.

Next action for the U18 Cobras comes on Feb. 10 when they head to Magrath for a 6 p.m. game and then on Feb. 11, the Cobras welcome in Fort Macleod for a 4:45 p.m. game.
