The high school baseball season is in full swing for the Prairie Winds Wild.
The 2026 campaign in Alberta Premier Baseball League for the Wild kicked off April 15 with a 13-3 setback to Catholic Central.
On April 21, the Coaldale outfit dropped a 19-11 decision to the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams.
Last Wednesday, Prairie Winds battled the Magrath Zeniths and came out on the wrong side of an 8-4 game.
The contest was tied 2-2 after the first but in the top of the third, Magrath struck for three runs to take a 5-2 lead, which proved too much to overcome.
The Wild picked up a run in the bottom of the third to close it to 5-3, before Magrath and Coaldale traded runs in the top of the fourth and the bottom of the fifth, as the Zeniths led 6-4.
Magrath scored twice more in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Tyson Feyter, Kade Hamilton, Eric Stotyn, Ethan VanSluys and Oz Hiscox all had one hit each for the Wild, as Stotyn drove in two runs and collected a walk.
Nolan Honess pitched three and two thirds innings, gave up six earned runs on five hits, walked four and struck out six. Benj Boschman worked three and third, and was charged with one run on one hit allowed, with two walks and five strikeouts.
Against the Rams, the two teams lit up the scoreboard in the first, as LCI led 7-6 after an eventful inning. It was a tight 8-7 game after two before the Rams put up four in the top of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 14-7 lead, before Prairie Winds struck back for three in the bottom of the fourth to make it 14-10.
LCI closed it out with a run in the fifth and two more in both the sixth and seventh, as the city team ended the game with 13 hits compared to nine for the Wild.
Hamilton got the start on the mound and had a tough first inning, before Hiscox and Feyter both worked two and a third innings, and notched two strikeouts each. Honess got in an inning of work, while JAce Robinson also recorded two outs, both of which were strikeouts.
Hamilton paced the offence with three hits and a RBI, while Honess added two hits and a walk and scored three runs.
Grady Knoblich drove in two runs and VanSluys, Ausin Csak and Hiscox all added one hit and one RBI each. Robinson drove in the other run.
The CCH gamer was called early due to weather, as the Cougars got out to a big 9=1 lead after two and cruised home from there.
Feyter, Knoblich and Hamilton had one hit each for Coaldale, while Knoblich drove in two runs.
Boschman started on the mound and worked an inning, as Honess tossed an inning and a third and Hiscox finished things up with two and two thirds innings on the bump.
Prairie Winds is back in action on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game against the Chinook Coyotes, in Coaldale at The Quads.
