Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, Rachael Thomas, recently recognized the Town of Picture Butte’s Centennial in the House of Commons, prior to the House rising for summer break.
Thomas rose in the House of Commons on June 12 to extend her congratulations to the Town of Picture Butte, as it marks the milestone in 2026 and prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary later this summer.
“For a century, Picture Butte has been shaped by the values that define rural Canada, by work, family and community spirit,” said Thomas. “What began as a small prairie settlement, marked by the establishment of its post office, has now grown into the livestock feeding capital of the entire country.”
She noted that title reflects more than just an industry – it reflects generations of farmers, ranchers, workers and families whose dedication had helped feed Canadians and strengthened Southern Alberta’s economy.
“From its farms and local businesses, to its schools, its churches and its volunteers, Picture Butte continues to represent the very best of Southern Alberta,” said Thomas, sharing her gratitude for those who have built, served and strengthened the community over the past century.
“Your legacy is one of vision, determination, and generosity. As the Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, congratulations on 100 years,” Thomas concluded.
The Town of Picture Butte will celebrate its Centennial during its annual Jamboree Days Aug. 14-16.
