Residents are now able to register for the annual Seeds of Change: Rural Immigration Conference in Brooks that focuses on attraction and retention of newcomers in rural communities.

The event set for Nov. 9-10 is presented by the city and the Brooks and Country Immigration Services, and includes several vendors and representatives for a variety of industrial and government sectors with a focus on developing and increasing immigration strategies for rural communities.

The goal of the conference is to host a network of leaders, economic development professionals, settlement services and community development organizations in one location.

This year’s conference includes speeches from Rob Roach, ATB Deputy Chief Economist and Linh Huyuh, who is an author as well as an “extreme non-athlete” who completed the Antarctic Ice Marathon, North Pole Marathon and multiple 250 km ultra-marathons across the world in challenging climates.

The conference will also include a community readiness panel, workshops on immigration law, rural renewal stream, local immigration partnerships, leveraging finances and an integration and retention panel.

Resignation for the two-day conference is $150 and also includes meals throughout the event.
