This Heritage Day, Nobleford is honouring its history and its people.
The Town’s annual one-day event, Heritage Day, takes place July 18, and will include a variety of festivities for the entire family to enjoy, including a pancake breakfast, candy parade, kids games and an antique car show.
Long-time resident and president of the Nobleford and Area Museum, Don Zech, said Heritage Day is an important celebration of the town and its history.
This year, he and his wife Carol were named the parade marshals for the Heritage Day parade.
“I’m honoured to be the parade marshal,” said Zech, noting his family roots in the community. “My ties to Nobleford go back to 1907 when my grandparents homesteaded here and we’re still living on what’s left of the original homestead.”
A graduate of Nobleford High School, Zech returned to the Town to teach and later became a school administrator and also served as school principal. Zech represented Nobleford on the local school board as well.
“I have very deep ties to the community,” said Zech, adding Heritage Day holds a lot of meaning for him and his family. “It’s a very personal thing. We truly were honoured to be asked to be parade marshals – it was unexpected and deeply appreciated,” he said.
Residents and visitors attending Heritage Day in Nobleford can enjoy several festivities this year including a pancake breakfast at the Community Complex from 7:30-10 a.m., followed by the Candy Parade at 11 a.m., a Fire Department Lunch at 11:30 a.m., an Antique Car Show on Noble Street from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the Nobleford and Area Museum on Milnes Street will also be open from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Other outdoor festivities at the Community Complex taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. include pickleball, food trucks, farmers market, inflatables, glitter tattoos, animal balloons, cotton candy, popcorn, water games and other children’s activities. The Sandwhich Stop in Nobleford will also have beer gardens, one-dollar ice cream, and free regular coffee.
The Nobleford and Area Museum will be open on Heritage Day, and will provide a variety of things to see and do, that residents and visitors can enjoy during the Town’s annual summer celebration.
“(The museum) is preparing a float for the parade and we’re having a baking contest in conjunction with Heritage Day,” said Zech. “The theme of the baking contest is Recipes from the 1920’s and 1930’s.”
