Friday represented a little pre-Halloween treat for the Coaldale Copperheads, as the Snakes skated to a 6-5 victory over Cochrane.
A solid goaltending performance by Cole Lavorato propelled Coaldale to victory, despite the fact Cochrane held a 45-29 edge on the shot clock.
Cohen Richardson put Coaldale up 1-0 in the first on a goal assisted by Arjun Sahota and Barrett Van Nistelrooy, before Cochrane scored back-to-back markers to lead 2-1 after 20.
Chase Stronge tied things up for the Copperheads, as Drake Olineck and Lincoln Weiss drew the helpers. Ryan Holm gave Coaldale a lead with a goal assisted by Rchardson and Landon McEwen.
Cochrane struck back to tie it a three, to send the teams off the dressing room even after 40 minutes.
Cochrane struck early in the third to take a 4-3 advantage, which did not last long, as Holm scored 20 seconds later to tie things up. Van Nistelrooy and Paul Vanden Elzen had the assists.
Kobe Fujita put the Copperheads up with a goal assisted by Eric Price, before Richardson extended the lead to 6-4. Olineck and Weiss had assists.
Cochrane added a goal with just over five minutes left but in the end, that was as close as the Generals could get.
This coming week, Coaldale will host Okotoks on Saturday for an 8 p.m. contest.
On Sunday, the Copperheads host the Medicine Hat Cubs, with puck drop set for 5 p.m.
