Details for the official closing ceremony of the Town of Picture Butte’s Centennial Time Capsule were discussed during the Oct. 26, Town of Picture Butte regular council meeting.

The Town’s time capsule will be closed on Dec. 4, 2026.

Council previously noted they preferred to hold the time capsule closing ceremony on Dec. 4, in conjunction with Picture Butte’s annual Midnight Madness event.

The event will include a couple of short speeches prior to closing the time capsule.

Council discussed whether the public would like to see a list of what’s in the time capsule, prior to sealing it. Picture Butte CAO Keith Davis said they could do a handout for the public and pointed out that Picture Butte Mayor Cathy Moore  could also include a list of items during her speech.

Council also asked about Picture Butte’s Citizen of the Year and her participation in closing of the time capsule, as an honorary gesture.

“Just as a last act of the Citizen of the Year for our 100th Centennial (celebration),” said Coun. Philip Mack. “It might give it a little more meaning to the occasion than just the town staff sealing it.”

Both Davis and Moore liked the idea of including Picture Butte’s Citizen of the Year for the time capsule ceremony.

A list of things that were in the 2000 time capsule are being duplicated for the 2026 capsule. Some of those items include a menu from each restaurant, a Picture Butte High School Yearbook, flyers from all local businesses, a copy of the Sunny South Newspaper, a memory hard drive that will share photos or documents that represent life in Picture Butte in 2026, and several items from the Town of Picture Butte including a council photo, town staff photo, a town map, a Town Centennial (100) Pin, a Town shirt and a copy of the Town of Picture Butte 100th Anniversary Centennial Book.
