Local hockey action on the ice

Tough HJHL schedule this season for the Coaldale Copperheads with four three-game weekends prior to Christmas.
This past weekend saw the team going two-for-one, earning four points. Friday night travelling to Three Hills saw the Snakes take the match up with a final score of 8-0. Brendon Benson and Clay Vogt each scored twice.
Dillan Kelly stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season, while Levi Anderson, Clay Spencer, Matt Krusky and Brady Parenteau scored singles.
Saturday night, back at home, the team controlled the game for 60 minutes stomping the Strathmore Wheatland Kings 10-2. Matt Krusky was the lone player with a multi-goal game, while Isiah Day Chief added a goal and two helpers. Nine other players scored in front of the home crowd; Austin Huculak, MacKenzie Karl, Jayden Smith, Calvin Swanson and Brady Parenteau each finished with a goal and assist, while Logan McKay and Ryan Swier each with a single goal.
Dillan Kelly made 26 saves between the pipes.
Sunday, the third game of the weekend, didn’t continue on the same winning path for the Copperheads, as the team lost in Strathmore 7-4 including an open net Wheatland King goal. The Snakes had a tough first period allowing the Kings to score a couple in a row the opening five minutes of the game.
Clay Spencer scored the lone powerplay goal in the first period, which left them down 4-1 after 20 minutes.
After that it was catch up the rest of the game.
Spencer obtained his second of the game and singles came from Jonathan Zdan and Calvin Swanson.
Dylan Swanson was between the pipes the first 20 minutes stopping seven of 11 shots and Dillan Kelly played the final 40 minutes stopping 26 of 28.
This coming weekend the Copperheads are on another three-game schedule.
Friday the team travels to Okotoks. On Saturday, the team is at home against High River at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, the team travels to Banff for a late Sunday afternoon game.
The Picture Butte UFA Novice 1 Blades played their home tournament the weekend of Nov 25-27 and ended up losing in a shoot out in the “B” final.
This past weekend, the UFA Novice 1 Blades played the Novice 2 team both Saturday and Sunday and came out victorious in both games with points in the first game from Devin Groenenboom, Justin Campmans, Tate Serfs, Dalton Dell and Malia Campmans for a 9-3 win.
Points on Sunday’s game were earned by Devin Groneneboom, Tate Serfas, Ryan Serfas and Brody Trotter, for a 8-5 win over the Novice 2 Blades.
